Unboxing the Bear Natural Mattress

After placing your order, you can anticipate receiving the Bear Mattress within a few days to a week, depending on your location and the shipping method. For your convenience, the mattress is delivered rolled and in a box straight to your house.

You can move the mattress box to any room after receiving it, though Bear advises using two people to do so. To begin the unwrapping process, we took a pair of scissors and carefully cut through the box.

When the box was opened, the compressed mattress was carefully rolled up and wrapped in plastic. After the mattress is on the floor, we carefully cut away the plastic wrapping with scissors. As soon as the plastic was taken off, the mattress started to expand to its full size. This took only a few hours. This suggests excellent corner expansion.

All new mattresses have a slight, harmless odor when they first arrive; this is known as off-gassing. However, since this is an eco-friendly mattress, it likely only has a mild new product scent that should dissipate within 24 hours. To speed up this process, simply air out the mattress for a full day.

Firmness, Feel, and Comfort For the Bear Natural Mattress

Bear Natural Mattress Firmness

With a firmness rating of about 6.5 out of 10, where 10 is the firmest, the Bear Natural mattress is classified as medium-firm. Its medium-firm feel is ideal for a variety of sleepers because it balances comfort and support.

Bear Natural Mattress Firmness scale

The Bear mattress provides a comfortable sleeping surface. Its layers hug the body to release pressure points without causing undue sinking. Combination sleepers, who alternate between different sleeping positions during the night frequently, and back sleepers prefer the medium-firm feel. While offering sufficient support for stomach sleepers, it also provides sufficient cushioning for side sleepers.

Bear Natural Mattress Feel

With its all-natural layers, the Bear mattress can offer a distinctive and comfortable experience when lying down. The cover has such a unique pattern and also feels cool to touch. The layers of the mattress, which could include wool, organic cotton, and natural latex, can provide a soft yet supportive feel.

Natural latex gives pliable support that follows the natural contours of the body without sinking too much, and organic cotton and wool offer a layer of softness and breathability. Due to their natural ability to regulate temperature, natural materials like wool and latex can help wick away moisture and maintain a comfortable sleeping temperature. This can produce a cool, inviting sleep surface that is breathable and refreshing.

Bear Natural Mattress Comfort

Your body weight and preferred sleeping position have an impact on how comfortable your mattress feels, just like firmness does.

The Bear Natural mattress has excellent responsiveness, temperature control, and additional pressure relief. which all contribute to making the mattress more comfortable.

Most reviewers who tested the mattress with varying body weights and sleeping positions, especially back sleepers, found it to be reasonably comfortable.

Constructions, Materials, and Design

Materials and Design

Natural materials like organic cotton and Talalay latex make up the majority of the Bear Natural Mattress, and each one serves a specific function in offering support, comfort, and durability.

Performance, comfort, and support are all balanced in the design of the Bear Natural Mattress, which also contains materials meant to enhance the quality of sleep, especially for athletes and those who experience discomfort or are looking for the best pressure relief. The purpose of each layer in the Bear mattress is to enhance the quality of your sleep.

Layers

  1. Quilting with Organic Cotton: Organic cotton that has earned the GOTS certification breathes easily and has a soft, subtle stretch over the mattress' surface, promoting restful and revitalizing sleep.
  2. Comfort Layer Made of Natural Latex: With its unique medium-firm feel and 100% natural, sustainably sourced, and non-toxic construction, Talalay latex relieves tension and relaxes muscles, helping you sleep with the stresses of the day lifted off of you.
  3. Responsive Comfort Layer: This comfort layer provides more airflow and pressure relief while adjusting to all body shapes and sleeping positions. It also lessens motion transfer.
  4. Zoned Individually Encased Coils: Higher gauged coils are thoughtfully positioned in the center to improve lumbar support, while individually encased coils offer evenly distributed support. For the best possible sleeping experience, this design offers exceptional pressure relief, motion isolation, and breathability.
  5. Reinforced Edge Coils: Extra robust edge coils around the outside of the mattress to improve edge support. ensures the durability and structural soundness of your mattress, offering firm support even when you're lying close to the edges.
  6. Shock-absorbing Base Layer: DuraDense gives the mattress overall durability and base support.

Performance of Natural Bear Mattress

Cooling

The Bear Natural has a quilting cover with Organic Cotton, along with its 100% natural, sustainably sourced, non-toxic Talalay latex and its Individually Encased Zoned coils, that all help provide a cool night’s sleep along with breathability and allow heat to escape more efficiently, preventing the mattress from trapping heat and becoming uncomfortably warm.

We monitored the Bear Natural Mattress's heat retention while we lay on it for 20 minutes to assess its cooling capacity. We didn't feel any heat after 20 minutes, which suggests excellent cooling effectiveness.

In our cooling test, the Bear Natural Mattress received an outstanding 4.7/5.

Responsiveness

Because of its responsive design, the Bear mattress quickly adapts to variations in pressure or movement. Materials that offer bounce and elasticity, such as latex or responsive foam layers, are used to create this responsiveness.

The mattress adjusts quickly to your changing sleeping position and weight distribution, hugging the contours of your body and offering support where it's needed. This responsiveness makes it simpler to move around and less likely that you'll feel stuck in the mattress, which promotes a more relaxing and peaceful night's sleep.

We test responsiveness by dropping a 20-pound ball on the mattress and letting it settle for a second. We then time how long it takes the mattress to recover to its original form. The mattress recovered completely in 0.7 seconds, demonstrating its excellent responsiveness.

The Natural mattress scored a 4.8/5 on our responsiveness test.

Motion Isolation

Because of the Bear mattress's great motion isolation, movement on one side of the bed is less likely to transfer over to the other. This feature helps reduce nighttime movement disturbances, which is especially helpful for couples who share a bed.

To test for motion isolation, we first dropped a 20-pound ball on one side of the bed and a glass of water on the other. The bear's motion-transfer results are good.

We didn't notice any excessive water splashing, which leads us to believe that this mattress does a great job of isolating motion. Even if you both sleep well, you probably won't feel your partner move.

One reviewer was on the mattress in the second test, while the other rolled over and positioned themselves on one side of the bed. The reviewer at rest, on the other hand, claimed to have felt only slight movements.

In our motion isolation performance test, the Bear Natural mattress received a score of 4.5/5.

Edge Support

The Bear mattress's reinforced edges offer a supportive surface for activities like getting in and out of bed and sitting on the edge, preventing sagging or sinking when you sit or lie close to the edge of the bed.

Edge support adds to the mattress's overall durability by preserving its structural integrity, which enables it to endure frequent use and hold onto its supportive qualities over time.

To test for edge support, we firmly push the edges of the mattress and monitor for counterpressure. We were able to feel enough counterpressure and support thanks to the layers. As soon as we released the pressure, the edges returned to their original shape.

For our second test, we simply sat on the edges and monitored for sinking. We felt extremely supported and only sank the normal amount. For those who prefer to sit or lie on the edge of their bed or who have trouble falling asleep, this mattress will offer excellent edge support.

In our edge support test, the Bear Natural mattress received a score of 4.7/5.

Noise

Generally speaking, Bear mattresses are made to be almost silent when in use. Its design, which frequently has foam layers and few moving parts, helps create a peaceful sleeping environment. The Bear mattress stays stable and quiet during movement, in contrast to some conventional hybrid mattresses that may make creaking or squeaking sounds.

We perform our noise test on the mattress by dropping a 20-pound ball. After that, we listen for any squeaks or creaks using sensitive microphones. We couldn’t detect any noise. Which means, the mattress is silent.

The Bear Natural Mattress received a perfect 5/5 for noise performance.

Sex

The Bear mattress's passable responsiveness and bounce may improve a satisfying sexual experience. For intimate activities, its medium-firm feel offers a supportive surface that facilitates comfortable movement and positioning.

Although the Bear mattress might not have the same bounce as an innerspring mattress made traditionally, its latex and coil layers provide sufficient springiness to allow for movement without being overly constrictive.

All things considered, the Bear mattress's blend of support, comfort, and responsiveness may make it a good choice for couples.

In our sex performance test, the Bear Natural mattress received an overall rating of 4.5/5.

Pressure Relief

We can assess the mattress's ability to relieve pressure by looking at how it performs in a variety of sleeping positions. During our pressure relief test, we lie on the bed and use pressure mapping equipment to measure the pressure levels throughout our bodies.

An illustration of our findings is shown below: the more blue, the better. The three main types of pain that we treat are hip, shoulder, and back.

Think about how you sleep before reading the results below. For example, f you experience pain in your shoulders and hips when sleeping on your side, look for results with little to no pressure accumulation at these points.

The image below shows the results of our test.

Bear Natural Mattress Pressure Map

The Bear Natural is ideal for back sleepers. As you can see from the blue and a hint of green colors on the map, the Bear mattress offers excellent pressure relief. Its medium-firm feel ensures even weight distribution throughout the body and aids in maintaining proper spinal alignment, preventing hip sagging.

The pressure-relieving qualities of the Bear mattress are average for side sleepers, as you can see from the green colors of the map. Its layers of contouring foam follow the natural curves of the body, especially the hips and shoulders, to relieve pressure points and improve comfort.

While the Bear mattress can still offer adequate support for heavy stomach sleepers, as we can see on the map’s yellow areas, it may be better for lighter stomach sleepers. However, this mattress may not be the best option for this sleeping position. Stomach sleepers typically require a firmer surface to prevent excessive sinking of the hips, which can lead to spinal misalignment.

The Natural Bear Mattress scored a 4.5/5 on our pressure relief test, making it comfortable for most types of sleepers and couples.
