The Juno Mattress Overview

Pros

  • Cooling: Most all-foam mattresses trap heat because they are not as breathable as innerspring and hybrid mattresses. However, the Juno mattress features a layer of cooling gel foam, which gives the mattress a cool, refreshing feel, allowing hot sleepers to enjoy it without overheating.
  • Pressure Relieving: The Juno mattress consists of cradling and contouring memory foam, which allows for the right amount of sinkage and cushions the body while sleeping in any position. This eases the pain of pressure points and promotes a healthy, pain-free night's sleep.
  • Budget-Friendly: The Juno mattress is made with high-quality materials that can make it last for a long time, yet it is very affordable and budget-friendly. This makes it a great option for those looking for a durable bed with great value for its price, as well as an excellent choice for those looking for a first apartment or dorm mattress.

Cons

  • Not Suitable for Heavy-Weight Sleepers: The Juno mattress is a great option for sleepers who weigh less than 250 lbs. Yet, those who weigh more might feel that they are not being well supported by this bed.

Who we Recommend the Juno Mattress for

  • Hot Sleepers: Hot sleepers would really enjoy the Juno mattress’ cool, refreshing feel. It features a layer of cooling foam gel that allows it to dissipate your body’s heat and remain cool and dry all night.
  • Couples: As an all-foam bed, it easily isolates motion from one side of the bed to the other, so you won't be disturbed by your partner's tossing and turning throughout the night.
  • Combination Sleepers: Combination sleepers often need a bouncy bed that offers easy mobility. The Juno mattress has a comfort layer of buoyant memory foam that allows you to easily switch sleeping positions without feeling stuck.
  • Budget Shoppers: If you're looking for a mattress that offers great performance and features high-quality materials without breaking the bank, the Juno mattress is a good option. It offers very good cooling and motion isolation performance, and it looks sleek and elegant. This makes it a great value for its price.

Unboxing the Juno Mattress

Being a bed-in-a-box mattress, the Juno arrived compressed and rolled in a box. The box was a bit heavy, so make sure to have someone help you set up the Juno mattress.

To unbox it, simply take it out of the box, place it on your bed, carefully cut the plastic wrap, and let it fully expand.

When we unboxed the Juno mattress, we noticed that it took a few hours to fully expand to its full 8-inch height. We also noticed that it expanded all the way to its very edges. This good edge expansion makes your bed look better and indicates that it has great edge support.

Most bed-in-a-box mattresses release an overpowering, irritating odor once they are unboxed, known as off-gassing. However, the Juno bed only produced a faint smell that disappeared with good airflow. This was not a surprise to us, as the foam used in the Juno bed is CertiPUR-US certified, making it a safe bed that won't emit any harsh chemicals or toxins into your bedroom.

Overall, we found the unboxing experience of the Juno mattress to be smooth and hassle-free.

Firmness, Feel, and Comfort For the Juno Mattress

The Juno Mattress Firmness

The Juno mattress scored a 6/10 on our firmness scale, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest. This makes it a medium-firm bed, which is typically the firmness level that meets the needs of most sleepers. It is most suitable for back sleepers, as they will feel their weight evenly distributed on the sleeping surface of the mattress. Side sleepers may also enjoy this firmness level, as it supports or cushions them where they need it most.

Juno mattress firmness scale

However, this bed would not be a great option for heavy stomach sleepers. It may be too soft and thin to support them, causing their hips to sink too much and leading to lower back pain. Therefore, a firmer, more supportive mattress is better suggested for them.

The Juno Mattress Feel

When we first started sleeping on the Juno mattress, we felt the memory foam comfort layer cradling our bodies, which is perfect for those who prefer the classic feel of memory foam mattresses. At the same time, the Juno also felt quite supportive, thanks to the dense polyfoam. The mattress also has a knit stretchy cover that gives it a soft, cozy feel.

The Juno Mattress Comfort

The comfort you get from any mattress is also a subjective matter. It highly depends on your body weight, preferred sleeping position, and the kind of materials you like. Therefore, if you are a fan of the cushioning feel of memory beds, then the Juno mattress would be a good option for you.

Juno mattress

For light and average-weight back sleepers, the Juno mattress would be super comfortable and supportive. It would provide back sleepers with the needed support to achieve the best spinal alignment. It would also cushion the pressure points of side sleepers, allowing them to experience healthy, pain-free sleep.

However, stomach sleepers who weigh more than 250 lbs would find this bed too soft for their liking. It would allow their hips to sink too much, which leads to pressure buildup in the lower back area. So if you fall into this category, we advise you to opt for a firmer and thicker bed.

Constructions, Materials, and Design

Materials and Design

The Juno is an 8” mattress that is made with CertiPUR-US memory foam. It features a comfortable layer of cooling gel foam that allows it to maintain a cool, refreshing temperature all night. It also has a support core of high-density polyfoam, which makes it feel supportive and adds to its durability.

Layers

Here is what is inside the Juno mattress:

Juno mattress layers

  1. Cover: A knit, stretchy cover that is made with a polyester blend. This cover has breathable properties that enhance the bed’s ventilation. It is also soft to the touch and has a cozy feel to it.
  2. Comfort Layer: This is a cooling memory foam layer that adds to the mattress’ cooling properties. It also has a slow response to pressure, allowing for body contouring and pressure relief. This would feel comfortable for back and side sleepers.
  3. Support Core: The support core of the Juno bad consists of high-density polyfoam. It gives the mattress the needed support to lift your body and prevent too much sinkage. This layer also allows you to feel a mixture of comfort and support, which would appeal especially to side sleepers.

Performance of the Juno Mattress

Cooling

If you are a hot sleeper or simply don’t like the feeling of a warm mattress while sleeping, then good cooling performance is significant for you, while looking for a new mattress.

We did our standard test to evaluate the Juno mattress’ cooling performance. The first test consists of sleeping on each side for a 20-minute nap.

When we did this test, we found that the mattress maintained a neutral temperature, regardless of the sleeping position.

The Juno mattress has a breathable cover that improves its ventilation and allows the air to travel through its layers. It also features a comfort layer of gel memory foam that adds to its cooling properties and allows it to dissipate the body’s heat. Therefore, it is a good option for those who tend to slightly overheat while sleeping.

We rated the Juno mattress’ cooling performance a 4.6/5.

Responsiveness

Opting for a responsive mattress is important, especially if you are a combination sleeper. Good responsiveness means that it is easy to move and change sleeping positions on the mattress without feeling stuck in it.

We tested the Juno mattress’ responsiveness by placing a 20 lb ball onto its sleep surface and then removing it. This test helps us evaluate how quickly the mattress responds to pressure. While doing this test, we found that the mattress takes about 1.7 seconds to recover to its initial form. This shows that the mattress has a slower response to pressure, which is expected from a classic memory foam bed. However, you should face problems moving and switching positions on this bed.

We rated the Juno mattress’ responsiveness 4/5.

Motion Isolation

Mattresses with good motion isolation are ideal if you don’t want to feel your partner’s tossing and turning on the bed all day. We tested the Juno mattress’ motion isolation performance by running our standard motion isolation tests.

The first test is that we put a glass of water on one side of the mattress, and dropped a 20 lb ball on the other side. This helps us examine how much motion is transferred to the glass of water. While doing this test, we found that the water glass was hardly affected by the ball drop.

The second test consists of rolling on one side of the mattress and having our partner report to us the motion propagated on the other side of the mattress. This test also indicated that the mattress transfers very little movement.

Again, such a great motion isolation performance is expected from an all-foam bed. Unlike innerspring or hybrid mattresses that have coils in their constructions, all-foam beds do an excellent job of isolating motion from one side of the bed to the other. Therefore, if you are easily disturbed by your partner’s tossing and turning all night, this bed will solve your problem.

We rated the Juno mattress’ motion isolation performance a well-deserved 5/5.

Edge Support

Opting for a mattress that has a good edge support performance is essential. A mattress with good edge support would make you feel supported while sleeping near the edges, and allow you to utilize the entire sleep surface of the mattress, without feeling that you will fall out of bed.

A reviewer sitting on the edge of Juno mattress

We ran a couple of tests to evaluate the Juno mattress’ edge support.

The first test we did was to apply pressure to the edges of the mattress to see how much it sinks. This test indicates if the mattress has strong edges that allow you to freely use the entire bed surface. While doing this test, we found that the edges of the mattress compress slightly when pressure is applied.

The second test we did consisted of sitting on the edges of the mattress and observing how well it holds body weight. The results of the test were the same, as the edges of the mattress compressed slightly due to body weight.

The Juno is an all-foam bed, and all-foam mattresses tend to have a weaker edge support. Therefore, if you want a mattress that has stronger edges, a hybrid bed would be a better option for you.

We rated the Juno mattress’ edge support performance a 3.5/5.

Noise

We did our standard noise test to see if the Juno bed made any noises or squeaks. Our test involves dropping a heavy ball onto the surface of the mattress and reporting if it makes any noises or squeaks through using highly sensitive mics.

When we performed our noise test, we found the Juno mattress to be within the “silent” mattress category. It barely produces any noise due to the fact that it doesn’t have any innerspring or coils in its structure, which would offer you a quiet and pleasant sleeping experience.

Therefore, we rated the Juno mattress’ noise performance a solid 5/5.

Sex

We determine if a mattress has a good sex performance based on a number of elements, such as its cooling performance, bounce, and edge support.

We found that the Juno mattress is a decent option if you want a mattress that is good for sex. It has a bouncy feel that makes movement and changing positions easy. The cool gel memory foam also helps the mattress stay dry and at a neutral temperature, so you can enjoy a comfortable and cool sleep surface.

However, the mattress does not have great edge support, so you may want to opt for a larger size to avoid worrying about rolling out of bed.

With that being said, we rated the Juno mattress’ sex performance a 4.2/5.

Pressure Relief

We tested the Juno mattress’ pressure relief by taking a 20-minute nap on it and reporting the pressure caused by different body parts. The pressure map below indicates how the mattress responds to each sleeping position.

Juno mattress pressure map

Back sleepers - Light and average-weight back sleepers should feel well supported by this mattress. However, heavy-weight sleepers would experience excessive sinkage that causes back pain.

Side sleepers - Side sleepers, especially those who weigh less than 250 lbs, should find this mattress very comfortable. Being a medium-firm, the Juno would allow their shoulders and hips to sink, which eases the pressure on those areas.

Stomach Sleepers - Stomach sleepers would feel that their hips are sinking too much, which leads to pressure building up in their lower back.

We rated the Juno mattress’ pressure relief a 4.2/5.
