Lytton Signature Mattress Overview

Pros

Versatile - The Lytton Signature comes in two firmness options: Comfort Plush and Comfort Firm. The Comfort Plush model would be a great option for side sleepers, whereas the Comfort Firm one would be a better option for back and stomach sleepers. This allows the bed to be versatile and suit a wide range of sleepers who are looking for a personalized sleeping experience.

Breathable - If you are a hot sleeper, or live in a warm area and looking for a breathable and cooling mattress, the Lytton Signature would be a good option for you. It is specially designed to sleep cool and comfortable all night, as it features cooling and breathable materials.

Offers Great Pressure Relief - The Comfort Plush model of this bed does an excellent job of relieving your pressure points. With its soft, cradling feel, the Euro-top and Serene Foam cushion your body’s contours. This promotes healthy, pain-free sleep.

Cons

Not Suitable for Back and Stomach Sleepers - The Comfort Plush model of the Lytton Signature would be a great option for side sleepers. Its soft feel gives them the best pressure relief and keeps them in a healthy sleep posture. Yet, back and stomach sleepers would sink out of alignment while sleeping on this model. Therefore, the Comfort Firm model would be a better option for them.

Who we Recommend the Lytton Signature for

Side Sleepers - Side sleepers usually opt for a softer mattress that can relieve their pressure points, making the Lytton Signature an excellent option for them. The Comfort Soft model gives those folks the right amount of sinkage to ease the pressure on their hips and shoulders and keep them in a good alignment. Therefore, side sleepers would get comfortable and cozy while sleeping on this bed.

Hot Sleepers - If you are looking for a mattress that can keep you cool all night, then the Lytton Signature would make a great option for you. It is a hybrid mattress, which allows the air to flow regularly through its layers to keep it well-ventilated all the time. It also features cooling materials that allow it to dissipate the body’s heat and maintain a cool temperature for longer periods of time.

Couples - Couples usually need a mattress that has good edge support and motion isolation performances, and the Lytton Signature does achieve this. For edge support, it has individually pocketed coils near its perimeter, which helps its edges to be more supportive. It also does a good job of isolating motion from one side of the bed to the other. Such performances allow it to be comfortable for you and your partner.

Unboxing the Lytton Signature Mattress

Lytton makes sure that you have a comfortable and smooth experience, starting from the unboxing stage. The Lytton Signature arrived to us compressed in a box. To unbox it, you simply place it on a bed, carefully cut the plastic wrap, and wait for it to expand.

When we unboxed it, we found that the Lytton Signature took a few hours to expand to its full size. We also noticed that the mattress expanded all the way to its very edges, making the bed look nicer and more supportive at the edges.

Moreover, the majority of bed-in-a-box mattresses release a potent smell once they are unboxed, which is called off-gassing. Yet, the Lytton Signature mattress hardly produced any smell. This means that it is free of harmful chemicals, so you can rest assured that you are using a mattress that prioritizes both your comfort and well-being.

Overall, we found that the unboxing experience of the Lytton Signature mattress was smooth and hassle-free.

Firmness, Feel and Comfort For the Lytton Signature Mattress

The Lytton Signature Mattress Firmness

The firmness of any mattress depends on your body weight and preferred sleeping position. This makes it a subjective matter that differs from one person to another. Yet, it is essential to opt for a mattress with a firmness level that suits your own specific needs. A mattress that is too soft or too firm for you may negatively impact your sleep health and overall well-being.

Lytton Signature firmness scale

The Lytton Signature mattress comes in two firmness options: Comfort Plush and Comfort Firm. This allows it to be a versatile mattress that can suit the needs of a wide range of sleepers, with all shapes and sizes.

The Comfort Plush model achieved a 5/10 on our firmness scale, with 1 being the softest and 10 being the firmest. This makes it an excellent option for side sleepers who prefer mattresses that are on the soft side. It gives them the needed amount of sinkage to cushion their pressure points and give them a healthy sleep.

The Lytton Signature Mattress Feel

When we first tried sleeping on the Lytton Signature mattress, we were immediately met by the soft, plush feel of the tufted Euro-top cover. It does an excellent job at cradling the body’s contours, offering you an excellent pressure relief. We also felt its cool, comfortable sleep surface, thanks to its breathable and cooling materials.

The mattress felt like the perfect combination of comfort and support. Its comfort layer allows for the right amount of sinkage, offering you optimal comfort. Yet, after sleeping for a couple of minutes on the Lytton Signature, you would feel the support of the individually pocketed coils.

Overall, we found that the Lytton Signature has one of the most comfortable and welcoming sleep surfaces.

The Lytton Signature Mattress Comfort

The amount of comfort you get from any mattress is also a subjective matter, as it depends on your body weight, preferred sleeping position, and the kind of materials you like in your mattress. Therefore, those who enjoy the feel of a hybrid mattress should find the Lytton Signature comfortable.

Side sleepers should find the Comfort Plush model of this mattress extremely comfortable. It is soft enough to cushion their shoulders and hips, which prevents pressure buildups in these areas. It also offers them the needed amount of sinkage to keep them in perfect alignment.

Back and stomach sleepers would find the Comfort Firm model very supportive and comfortable. It is firm enough to evenly distribute their weight on the sleep surface. It also prevents them from sinking out of alignment, which protects their pressure points.

Constructions, Materials, and Design

Materials and Design

The Lytton Signature is a hybrid mattress, meaning that it is made with a combination of foam and coil layers. It features innovative materials that allow it to strike the perfect balance between comfort and support. The cover of the mattress is made with organic cotton and has a tufted Euro-top design that gives it a plush, luxurious feel.

The comfort layer consists of CertiPUR-certified, open-cell foam that keeps the bed cool and comfortable all night. It also has a support core of edge-to-edge individually pocketed coils that are specially designed to give your body support where it needs the most for maximum pressure relief.

Layers

Here is what is inside the Lytton Signature mattress:

Lytton Signature mattress layers

  1. Cover - The cover of the mattress is made with organic cotton and has a Euro-top design. The Euro-top features two thin layers of gel-infused, open-cell memory foam that dissipates the body’s heat and regulates the temperature of the Lytton Signature.
  2. Comfort Layer - The comfort layer of the mattress is made with Lytton’s Serene Foam. It has microscopic air capsules that make it more supportive and pressure-relieving. This layer is also breathable, unlike classic memory foam that traps the body’s heat.
  3. Support Core - The support core of the Lytton signature consists of edge-to-edge individually wrapped coils. Those coils have a zoned design to give you more support where you need it most. This layer also isolates motion and regulates the mattress’ temperature.
  4. Base Layer - The mattress has a base layer of high-density polyfoam. It makes the mattress more stable and adds to its durability.

Performance of the Lytton Signature Mattress

Cooling

If you tend to sleep hot, or simply don’t like the feeling of a hot mattress at night, then getting a mattress with good cooling performance is essential for you.

We ran two tests to assess the Lytton Signature mattress’ cooling performance. The first test consists of sleeping on each side for a 20-minute nap. When we did this test, we found that the mattress remained cool while sleeping on each side.

The second test we did was to try sleeping on the mattress for a full night. We found that the mattress gave us the same result, as it did a good job absorbing and dissipating the heat.

Such excellent results were expected from the Lytton Signature, as its cooling performance is definitely one of its strong points. It is a hybrid mattress, so it is naturally breathable and well-ventilated. It also features cooling materials, such as open-cell, gel-infused foam. This combination of breathable and cooling materials gives the Lytton Signature a cool and comfortable feel.

We rated the Lytton Signature’s cooling performance a solid 5/5.

Responsiveness

Responsiveness is essential for any mattress, as good responsiveness means that it is easy to move and change sleeping positions on the mattress, without feeling stuck. We tested the Lytton Signature mattress’ responsiveness by placing a 20 lb ball on its surface and then removing it. This test helps assess how quickly the mattress responds to pressure.

While doing this test, we found that the mattress takes about 1.3 seconds to recover to its initial form. This shows that the mattress has a good responsiveness performance that promotes easy mobility on its surface. This makes it a great option for combination sleepers, as it would allow them to smoothly adjust sleeping positions.

We rated the Lytton Signature’s Responsiveness performance a 4.6/5.

Motion Isolation

If you are a light sleeper who is easily disrupted by your partner’s tossing and turning all night, then a mattress with good motion isolation performance would meet your needs. We tested the Lytton Signature mattress’ motion isolation by running a couple of tests.

The first test is that we put a glass of water on one side of the mattress, and dropped a 20 lb ball on the other side. This helps us examine how much motion is propagated to the glass of water. While doing this test, we found that the water glass was slightly affected by the drop of the ball.

The second test involves rolling on one side of the mattress and having our partner report to us the motion felt on the other side of the mattress. This test also indicated that the mattress allows for little motion transfer.

This shows that, for a hybrid bed, the Lytton Signature has an above-average motion isolation performance. It features layers of foam atop individually encased coils. This gives the mattress bounce, without compromising motion isolation. Therefore, you can rest assured that you can sleep on the Lytton Signature without being disturbed by your partner’s movements.

We rated the Lytton Signature’s motion isolation performance a solid 4.5/5.

Edge Support

A mattress with strong edges that don’t compress easily allows you to use up the entire sleep surface of the mattress, and sleep near the edges without feeling that you will fall out of bed. Mattresses with stronger edges also tend to last longer, as not being forced to sleep near the center of your bed prevents premature sagging. We tested the Lytton Signature mattress’ edge support by performing two tests.

Lytton Signature mattress

The first test we did consisted of applying pressure to the edges of the mattress and observing how much it sank. This test indicates if the mattress has strong edges that make you feel supported while sleeping. When we did this test, we found that thanks to having pocketed coils all the way to its edges, the mattress has supportive edges that only compress a little.

The second test we did involved sitting on the mattress’ edges and seeing how well it holds body weight. The results of the test were equally good, as the mattress supported our bodies well.

Thanks to having edge-to-edge individually pocketed coils, the Lytton Signature has a good edge support performance that would allow you to easily utilize the entire sleep surface of your bed.

We rated the Lytton Signature’s edge support a solid 4.4/5.

Noise

We ran our standard noise test to see if the Lytton Signature causes any noises or squeaks. Our noise test consists of dropping a heavy ball on the surface of the mattress, and examining how much noise it causes through highly sensitive mics.

When we performed our noise test, we found the Lytton Signature mattress within the “whisper quiet” mattresses range. It makes very little noise due to the fact that it has coils in its layers. However, not enough noise to cause sleep disruption.

We rated the Lytton Signature’s noise performance a solid 4.8/5.

Sex

We determine if a mattress is good for sex based on a number of elements, such as cooling performance, edge support, responsiveness, and more. Based on our performance test results, the Lytton Signature should be a great mattress for sex.

It has an excellent cooling performance thanks to featuring breathable and cooling materials that help dissipate the heat of your body. It also has a support core of coils, which gives it a springy, buoyant feel. Moreover, the Lytton Signature has a decent edge support performance, so you shouldn’t worry about falling out of bed at any point.

We rated the Lytton Signature’s sex performance a solid 4.7/5.

Pressure Relief

When we sleep, the pressure of our bodies concentrates on certain body parts, which are called pressure points. So, while looking for a new mattress, it is important to consider one that relieves your pressure points so you can enjoy a healthy sleep.

We tested the Lytton Signature mattress’ pressure relief by taking a 20-minute nap on the mattress and reporting the pressure caused by different body parts. The pressure map below shows how the mattress responds to each sleeping position.

Lytton Signature mattress pressure map

Back sleepers - Back sleepers would sink too much into the Comfort Plush model of this mattress, which would increase pressure on their back. Therefore, the Comfort Firm model would be a better option for them.

Side Sleepers - Side sleepers would experience a healthy, pain-free sleep on the Comfort Plush model. It would provide them with the right amount of sinkage, and relieve pressure of their hips and shoulders.

Stomach Sleepers - Similar to back sleepers, stomach sleepers would experience excessive sinkage while sleeping on the Comfort Plush model. They would particularly feel that their hips are sinking too much, which leads to pressure buildups in their lower back. The Comfort Firm model would be a better option for them.

We rated the Lytton Signature’s pressure relief a 4.3/5.
