Unboxing the Lytton Signature Mattress

Lytton makes sure that you have a comfortable and smooth experience, starting from the unboxing stage. The Lytton Signature arrived to us compressed in a box. To unbox it, you simply place it on a bed, carefully cut the plastic wrap, and wait for it to expand.

When we unboxed it, we found that the Lytton Signature took a few hours to expand to its full size. We also noticed that the mattress expanded all the way to its very edges, making the bed look nicer and more supportive at the edges.

Moreover, the majority of bed-in-a-box mattresses release a potent smell once they are unboxed, which is called off-gassing. Yet, the Lytton Signature mattress hardly produced any smell. Performance of the Lytton Signature Mattress

Cooling

If you tend to sleep hot, or simply don’t like the feeling of a hot mattress at night, then getting a mattress with good cooling performance is essential for you.

We ran two tests to assess the Lytton Signature mattress’ cooling performance. The first test consists of sleeping on each side for a 20-minute nap. When we did this test, we found that the mattress remained cool while sleeping on each side.

The second test we did was to try sleeping on the mattress for a full night. We found that the mattress gave us the same result, as it did a good job absorbing and dissipating the heat.

Such excellent results were expected from the Lytton Signature, as its cooling performance is definitely one of its strong points. It is a hybrid mattress, so it is naturally breathable and well-ventilated. It also features cooling materials, such as open-cell, gel-infused foam. This combination of breathable and cooling materials gives the Lytton Signature a cool and comfortable feel.

Responsiveness

We tested the Lytton Signature mattress’ responsiveness by placing a 20 lb ball on its surface and then removing it. This test helps assess how quickly the mattress responds to pressure.

While doing this test, we found that the mattress takes about 1.3 seconds to recover to its initial form. This shows that the mattress has a good responsiveness performance that promotes easy mobility on its surface. This makes it a great option for combination sleepers, as it would allow them to smoothly adjust sleeping positions.

The first test is that we put a glass of water on one side of the mattress, and dropped a 20 lb ball on the other side. This helps us examine how much motion is propagated to the glass of water. While doing this test, we found that the water glass was slightly affected by the drop of the ball.

The second test involves rolling on one side of the mattress and having our partner report to us the motion felt on the other side of the mattress. This test also indicated that the mattress allows for little motion transfer.

This shows that, for a hybrid bed, the Lytton Signature has an above-average motion isolation performance. It features layers of foam atop individually encased coils. This gives the mattress bounce, without compromising motion isolation. Therefore, you can rest assured that you can sleep on the Lytton Signature without being disturbed by your partner’s movements.

Edge Support

A mattress with strong edges that don’t compress easily allows you to use up the entire sleep surface of the mattress, and sleep near the edges without feeling that you will fall out of bed. Mattresses with stronger edges also tend to last longer, as not being forced to sleep near the center of your bed prevents premature sagging. We tested the Lytton Signature mattress’ edge support by performing two tests.

The first test we did consisted of applying pressure to the edges of the mattress and observing how much it sank. This test indicates if the mattress has strong edges that make you feel supported while sleeping. When we did this test, we found that thanks to having pocketed coils all the way to its edges, the mattress has supportive edges that only compress a little.

The second test we did involved sitting on the mattress’ edges and seeing how well it holds body weight. The results of the test were equally good, as the mattress supported our bodies well.

We ran our standard noise test to see if the Lytton Signature causes any noises or squeaks. Our noise test consists of dropping a heavy ball on the surface of the mattress, and examining how much noise it causes through highly sensitive mics.

When we performed our noise test, we found the Lytton Signature mattress within the “whisper quiet” mattresses range. It makes very little noise due to the fact that it has coils in its layers. However, not enough noise to cause sleep disruption.
