Unboxing the Puffy Cloud Mattress

The mattress unboxing experience was incredibly quick and easy. The Puffy Cloud Mattress comes compressed in bed-in-a-box-style packaging.

The weight of the package wasn’t as heavy as we expected it to be, it was easy to handle and easy to unbox. Getting the mattress out of the box and unpacking the vacuum-packed plastic packaging was an easy process.

The Puffy Cloud mattress expanded in around 3 minutes and started getting in shape quickly. Some mattresses suffer from bad corner expansion, giving the mattress less usable surface area and an unpleasant look. However, this was not the case with the Puffy Cloud Mattress. The Puffy Cloud was able to extend all the way to the corners. Good corner expansion allows your mattress to support your body even toward the edges and makes your bed look great.

We did not notice any strong off-gassing odor, and the room was completely odorless in less than a day.

The unboxing experience was overall very easy and quick, it took a couple of minutes, and the mattress was ready for use.

Firmness

The Puffy Cloud Mattress’ firmness is within the medium-firm range, which means it only sinks moderately. This makes the mattress suitable for all types of sleepers.

Feel

Puffy calls the outer layer of the mattress the Stain-Resistant Cloud Cover. The Cloud Cover has a textured cloud design that looks and feels very soft. The materials used in the Cloud Cover are definitely on the more luxurious side of things, despite the mattress’s competitive price bracket.

It’s worth noting that, despite the exterior feeling very soft, it wasn’t the softest exterior material we have seen in a mattress. However, the material feels very nice and makes you feel very comfortable while you’re asleep or taking a nap.

Comfort

The Puffy Cloud Mattress feels very comfortable, as expected from a luxury memory foam mattress. To test the mattress’ comfort, we tried a combination of sleeping positions to see how comfortable the mattress felt.

The mattress felt very comfortable in back and side sleeping positions, given the fact that our reviewer was of average weight. However, when they tried to sleep on their stomachs, it was not as comfortable. Thus, it should feel less comfortable for above-average-weight sleepers on their side.

Being medium-firm, it should be suitable for most average-weight and light-weight sleepers (from 150 lbs to 250 lbs).

Materials and Design

The Puffy Cloud Mattress uses an all-foam design with deep-conforming memory foam as a comfort layer, which creates a soft feel to it. Also, the mattress consists of five layers, forming a 10-inch-thick mattress.

The exterior cover is made of a knit white outer layer with clouds threaded on it and a light gray rough border fabric on the front corner of the mattress. The inner layers are a mixture of high-density foam, which balances durability and comfort.

The Puffy Cloud mattress features a sleek white and gray design that looks better in person than in the images. The mattress’ top and sides are covered in a soft white cover that has an adorable cloud pattern all over. The mattress's top and bottom edges are covered in a gray cover that has the beautiful stitched Puffy branding.

Overall, we found the materials and design of the Puffy Cloud mattress extremely appealing.

There are 5 layers in the Puffy Cloud Mattress:

1. Stain-Resistant Cloud Cover - This layer includes a white hypoallergenic and stain-resistant outer fabric that has several cloud designs embedded in it. This layer uses a zip-n-wash feature that makes it super easy for you to wash it.
2. Cooling Cloud Foam - This layer is designed to keep heat away from your body while you’re asleep on it. This 2-inch layer consists of gel-infused foam that can help your muscles and joints feel extremely comfortable in any sleeping position.
3. Climate Comfort Foam - This layer consists of a 2-inch humidity-resistant foam that is made to regulate your body temperature and allow airflow so you don’t get too hot while you’re asleep.
4. Firm Core Support Foam - This base layer is responsible for body support because it consists of 6 inches of high-density foam. This layer gives stability to the mattress, helps align your spine, and isolates motion to eliminate bounce and disturbance.
5. Grip Base Cover - This layer is designed to keep your mattress right where you want it. Meaning that the Grip Base Cover reduces mattress movement while sitting perfectly on any flat surface.

Performance of the Puffy Cloud Mattress

Cooling

One of the major drawbacks of foam mattresses is that they tend to make you feel very hot. However, the Puffy Cloud Mattress includes a cooling gel infusion in its structure to regulate and control your body’s temperature. The Puffy Cloud mattress features a cotton cover that reduces heat significantly. However, you still have to keep in mind that it is a foam mattress after all, so the cooling performance will not be as good as a hybrid mattress, such as the Puffy Lux Mattress.

We performed our standard 20-minute cooling performance test, which involves lying on the mattress and measuring heat buildup over time. While testing the Puffy Cloud mattress, we noticed that it performed much better than most memory foam mattresses, but it is not as good as a hybrid mattress.

The takeaway here is that if you get very hot at night, the Puffy Lux mattress might be worth considering. The Puffy Cloud is an excellent choice if you are moderately warm.

We gave the Puffy Cloud Mattress a solid 4/5 when it comes to cooling performance.

Responsiveness

Our tests showed that the mattress has excellent motion isolation performance, which may often indicate poor responsiveness. However, we were surprised to find that this was not the case with our tests.

Our test involves placing a 20-pound ball on top of the mattress and then lifting it to see how long it takes for the mattress to go back to its original shape after the ball is removed.

Better responsiveness means quicker shape recovery, which can make it easier for you to change sleep positions without feeling “stuck” in the mattress.

Our test showed that the mattress took 1.4 seconds to return to its original form, which is an excellent score for a memory foam mattress. This came as a surprise to us.

We gave the Puffy Cloud Mattress an excellent responsiveness score of 4.7/5.

Motion Isolation

The Puffy Cloud Mattress is heavily promoted for its excellent motion isolation performance. To assess the mattress’s motion isolation performance, we conducted two motion isolation tests.

In the first test, we put a full glass of water on one side of the bed and then we dropped a 20 lb ball on the other side to observe the motion of the mattress. In this test, the glass of water barely moved when the ball hit the mattress.

In the second test, we had one person roll on one side of the bed and another person lay down on the other to report if they could feel the motion coming from the other side. In this test, the same trend followed, where we couldn’t notice any motion propagating from the other side of the bed.

Because of the structure and design of the Puffy Cloud Mattress, the mattress can absorb motion very well. Thus, we give the Puffy Cloud Mattress a 5/5 in our motion isolation tests.

Edge Support

To assess the mattress’s edge support performance, we did our two standard tests. In the first test, we placed a 20-pound ball on the edge of the mattress to measure the edges’ sinkage. We did observe a very slight dip caused by the weight of the ball. Also, the ball itself did not seem to fall off or lean toward the edge of the mattress.

In the second test, we sat on the edge of the mattress to observe if it supported the body without sinking too much. The mattress didn’t sink in too much when we sat on the edge and provided proper support without feeling like we could fall off of the edge.

Despite being an all-foam mattress, the Puffy Cloud showed excellent edge support due to the high-density polyfoam.

The Puffy Cloud Mattress scored a strong 4.8/5 in our edge support tests.

Noise

To assess the Puffy Cloud’s noise performance, we tested it by dropping the 20-pound ball on it to observe if the impact produced any sound or noise. We found that the impact did not produce noticeable noise. This is often the case with all-foam mattresses, so despite the excellent performance, we weren’t surprised.

The Puffy Cloud Mattress scored a perfect 5/5 in our noise tests.

Sex

We determine whether a mattress is good for sex based on several factors. A mattress that has low motion isolation, good responsiveness, cooling features, solid edge support, and minimal noise is ideal for sex.

We found previously that the Puffy Cloud Mattress has excellent motion isolation, which would eliminate any bouncing effect, meaning it might affect sex performance negatively. Also, the mattress doesn’t offer exceptional cooling performance.

However, the mattress has excellent edge support, good responsiveness, and minimal noise, which might make it ideal for intimate use.

If you are in the market for an all-foam mattress, we believe that the Puffy Cloud strikes a great balance that is difficult for all-foam mattresses to achieve. However, if you are looking for the best sex performance, in addition to excellent performance in other aspects as well, then you might want to consider the Puffy Lux Mattress instead.

We conducted a pressure relief test with a 20-minute nap on each side to see the pressure applied to different areas of the body.

When it comes to back sleeping, our reviewers observed excellent spinal alignment. This resulted in pain relief and feeling more comfortable when sleeping on our backs.

For side sleeping, there was also sufficient pressure applied on the hips and shoulders that properly aligned our back and helped us have good sleep posture.
