The unboxing process for the PurpleFlex mattress was simple. It shipped compressed in a box, which we unpacked and started unrolling the mattress onto our sleeping surface. The mattress consists of a few layers, which are mainly memory foam, making it significantly lighter than most mattresses.

After unrolling the mattress, we left it for an hour to fully expand to its intended size. As for the edges, they inflated to their original shape shortly afterward. Indicating great corner expansion.

The PurpleFlex mattress did not give off a strong smell upon unpacking it. This is a result of the non-toxic materials used in making this mattress; the off-gassing period lasted only 2 days.

In the second test, one person lay on the mattress while another rolled and moved around on the other side of the bed. The person lying at rest on the other side reported that they felt very little movement.

Although the GelFlex grid performs well at reducing motion on its own, it isn’t sufficient for the needed amount of motion isolation that most couples seek in a bed.
