The Purple RestorePlus Hybrid Mattress Overview

Pros

Works for Most Sleepers - Being a hybrid mattress makes the RestorePlus a highly versatile mattress, as it can meet the needs of most sleepers, regardless of their body weight or preferred sleeping position. Its construction has both foam and individually pocketed coils, which makes it both adaptive and supportive. The Purple RestorePlus also comes in two firmness options, which gives mattress shoppers more than one option to choose from.

Sleeps Cool - Like the majority of the Purple mattresses, the RestorePlus sleeps cool all night. It has a breathable top cover and individually pocketed coils support core that allows the air to flow through it easily. Moreover, the Purple RestorePlus mattress has a layer of Purple’s signature GelFlex Grid that dissipates heat and leaves your mattress cool and refreshing.

Durable - The Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress should last you for a long time, without sagging or dropping. It has an edge-to-edge coils support core and edge support foam that would prevent it from sagging at the edges. It is also antimicrobial, which will prevent any fungi or bacteria buildup and keep it clean for a long time.

Hypoallergenic - The Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress is made with non-toxic materials that make it safe for those who suffer from allergies. It is also made with breathable materials that allow for a steady airflow, which leaves the mattress fresh and dry. This prevents mold, fungi, and bacteria growth, making it a bed that prioritizes both your comfort and well-being.

Cons

Pricy - The RestorePlus Hybrid mattress from Purple is definitely more expensive than other hybrid mattresses in the market. Yet, it is cheaper than most of Purple’s mattresses. The Purple RestorePlus is also made with premium materials that give it a unique and one-of-a-kind feel, which justifies its high price.

Who we Recommend the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid Mattress for

Hot Sleepers - The Purple RestorePlus hybrid mattress should be a great option for hot sleepers. It is crafted to maintain a neutral temperature all night due to having breathable materials in its construction. The Purple GelFlex Grid, to name a few, helps the air to travel seamlessly through the internals of the mattress, keeping it refreshing and dry all night.

Combination Sleepers - Combination sleepers usually need a mattress that has some bounce so they can move and change sleeping positions on it easily. The Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress does achieve this by combining the elastic GelFlex Grid with the individually pocketed coils support core. Those two layers give the mattress a bouncy feel that will make you turn and change your sleeping position seamlessly without feeling stuck in the mattress.

Back and Stomach Sleepers - The Firm model of the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress should be ideal for stomach and back sleepers. Those folks would feel well lifted and supported by the mattress, which would give them the healthiest sleeping posture.

Side Sleepers - The Soft model of this mattress would be plush and cushioning enough to cradle the shoulders and hips of side sleepers. It would give them the best spinal alignment, which protects their bodies and keep them comfortable.

Unboxing the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid Mattress

Purple ships the RestorePlus Hybrid mattress compressed in its signature sustainable purple bag. The bag was slightly heavy, but no need to worry about that as Purple includes a white-glove service to help you to move the mattress into your desired room and set it up on your bed.

When the mattress was unbagged, it expanded into its full 13” in a matter of a few hours. We also noticed that the mattress expanded all the way to its very corners. This is a plus, as good corner expansion indicates that your bed is highly supportive, especially around the edges. Good edge expansion also makes your bed looks more sleek.

Unlike most newly unboxed mattresses that release an overpowering off-gassing odor, the RestorePlus Hybrid mattress only had a new product smell that faded immediately with a strong airflow. This didn’t come as a surprise to us, as the RestorePlus Hybrid mattress is Clean Air Gold and CertiPUR-US certified, which shows that it doesn’t contain harsh and toxic chemicals.

Overall, we found that the unbagging experience of the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress was seamless and hassle-free.

Firmness, Feel and Comfort For the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid Mattress

The Purple RestorePlus Hybrid Mattress Firmness

The firmness of any mattress is highly subjective, as it depends on your body weight and preferred sleeping position. Yet, it is significant to look for a mattress that meets your specific needs. A mattress that is too soft or too firm for you may negatively impact your sleeping quality and overall well-being.

Purple RestorePlus hybrid mattress firmness scale

The RestorePlus Hybrid mattress comes in two firmness options: Soft and Firm. The Soft model achieved a 5/10 on our firmness scale, while the Firm one achieved a 7/10. This makes the Soft model ideal for those who like the feel of plush and cozy mattresses, especially those who sleep on their side.

The Firm model, on the other hand, would be a great option for back and stomach sleepers. It would give them the necessary support to keep their spine aligned.

Choose the Soft modelChoose the Firm model
If you are a side sleeper who is looking for a bed that can cushion your shoulders and hips.If you are a back or stomach sleeper who wants a supportive mattress.

The Purple RestorePlus Hybrid Mattress Feel

When we tried sleeping on the Purple RestorePlus mattress, we were immediately met by the unique feel of the GelFlex Grid. This exclusive material gives the mattress the feel of a more supportive waterbed.

The mattress cover is also soft to the touch with an antimicrobial finish that helps it stay fresh and clean. It is also breathable and moisture-wicking, which makes your bed dry and comfortable all night.

Overall, we found that the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress has a soft and comfortable sleep surface that would give you a well-rounded sleeping experience.

The Purple RestorePlus Hybrid Mattress Comfort

Similar to firmness, the comfort of your mattress also depends on your weight and preferred sleeping position. The Purple RestorePlus, luckily, is a hybrid bed that allows it to combine both comfort and support. It also comes in two firmness options, which gives you two models to choose from to achieve the maximum comfort possible.

A woman sleeping on Purple RestorePlus hybrid mattress

For back sleepers, the Firm model would be an excellent choice, as it would equally distribute their weight on the sleep surface of the bed while supporting their lumbar area. The Firm model would also be equally as good for stomach sleepers, as it would keep them floating on top of the mattress and prevents any sinkage around the hips area.

Light-weight and Average-weight side sleepers yet, would find the Soft model more comfortable. Its softness would allow for the right amount of sinkage at their shoulders and hips, keeping them in a perfect alignment. Heavy-weight side sleepers, however, would not get the needed support from the Soft model, so the Firm option is recommended for them.

Constructions, Materials, and Design

Materials and Design

The Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress is a 13” hybrid mattress, which means that it has a combination of foam and coils layers for both comfort and support. However, what really makes it stand out is Purple’s signature GelFlex Grid. This material gives the mattress a unique soft feel while being supportive at the same time. The mattress also has a layer of dense memory foam and a support core of individually wrapped zoned coils. This combination of layers promotes temperature regulation and pressure relief.

Purple RestorePlus hybrid materials

The material used in making the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid bed is free of toxins and harmful chemicals, as it is Clean Air Gold and CertiPUR-US certified. So you can rest assured that your Restore mattress won’t emit any toxins into your bedroom.

Layers

Here is what is inside the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid Mattress:

Purple RestorePlus hybrid layers

The First Layer - SoftFlex Cover: The RestorePlus mattress has a soft stretched cover that has breathable and moisture-wicking. The cover is also antimicrobial, as it prevents fungi and bacteria growth.

The Second Layer - Comfort Layer: The comfort layer of the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress consists of their exclusive GelFlex Grid that allows your bed to be firm or soft where you need it to be. This comfort layer relieves your pressure points while still being supportive of your body.

The Third Layer - Transition Layer: This ultra-comfort foam layer acts as the transition between the GelFlex Grid and the support core of the mattress. This added foam layer also adds to the mattress’ pressure relief performance.

The Fourth Layer - Support Core: The support core of the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress is made with zoned pocketed coils that extend to the very edges of your mattress. The zoned pocketed coils give you optimal support where you need it and improve the edge support of your bed.

Performance of the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid Mattress

Cooling

If you are a hot sleeper, or simply don’t want a mattress that traps heat and moisture, then looking for a mattress that offers good cooling performance is important for you. We evaluated the cooling performance of the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress by running a couple of our standard tests.

The first test we did consisted of taking a 20-minute nap on each side of the mattress. When we did this test, the bed remained cool and dry, despite the sleeping position. The second test we did is that we tried sleeping on the mattress for a full night. The results of this test were not different, as the mattress maintained a cool temperature all night.

These results didn’t come as a surprise for us, as the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid consists of highly breathable materials, such as Purple’s unique GelFlex Grid and the individually wrapped coils. Such materials improve the mattress’ ventilation, making it fresh and dry all the time.

We rated the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress’ cooling performance a 5/5.

Responsiveness

We all like to roll and turn on our beds freely, and a responsive mattress achieves that. A mattress with good responsiveness would promote easy movement and doesn’t make sleepers feel trapped inside it.

We tested the responsiveness of the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid by doing our standard responsiveness test. Our test consists of dropping a 20lbs ball onto the mattress and then removing it. This test helps us examine how fast the mattress recovers to its original shape after being subjected to pressure. When we did this test, we found that the mattress took about 0.8 seconds to recover into its original form. This indicates that it is super responsive, which is not a surprise to us. Like most hybrid beds, the Purple RestorePlus is bouncy due to having individually pocketed coils in its construction. What makes it extra responsive, though, is the elastic GelFlex Grid that makes movement on it effortless.

We rated the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress’ responsiveness a 5/5.

Motion Isolation

If you are a light-sleeper, or simply don’t want to be disturbed by your partner’s tossing and rolling on the bed all night, then opting for a mattress that can isolate motion is very important. We evaluated the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress’ motion isolation performance by running two tests.

The first test consists of placing a glass of water on one side of the bed and dropping a 20lbs ball on the other side. When we did this test, we noticed that the water inside the glass was slightly affected by the drop of the ball.

The second test involves rolling on one side of the bed, and having our partner report the motion felt on the other side. The result of this test was quite similar, as our partner felt some on the other side of the bed.

These results show that the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid does transfer some motion, which makes sense given the fact that it is a bouncy hybrid bed. Unlike memory foam, hybrid mattresses naturally transfer some motion due to having coils in their construction. However, you should not be too disturbed by this level of motion transfer, unless you are a very light-sleeper.

That being said, we rated the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress’ motion isolation performance a 4.3/5.

Edge Support

Edge support is important if you like to sit or sleep near the edges of your bed. It also allows you to use up the entire sleep surface of the mattress and makes the bed feel bigger. To evaluate the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress’ edge support, we did our two standard tests.

Purple RestorePlus hybrid mattress

The first test we did consisted of applying pressure to the edges of the mattress and examining how much it skins. This test indicates if the mattress has strong edges that make you feel supported while sleeping. When we did this test, we found that the edges of the Purple RestorePlus mattress only sink a little.

The second test we did involved sitting on the mattress’ edges and examining how well it holds body weight. The results of the test also indicated that the edges of the mattress do a great job of holding body weight.

We rated the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress’ edge support a 4.7/5.

Noise

We did our standard noise test to see if the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress causes any noise or squeaks that may disturb your sleep. Our test consists of dropping a heavy ball onto the surface of the mattress and using highly sensitive mics to see if it makes any noises or squeaks.

Our test showed that the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress is within the “ quiet” mattresses. It makes very little noise, due to it being a hybrid having coils in its construction. However, it is not to the extent of being disruptive to sleepers.

With that being said, we rated the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress’ noise a 4.7/5.

Sex

We determine if a mattress is good for sex based on a number of elements, such as responsiveness, cooling performance, and edge support. Given the results of our tests, the RestorePlus Hybrid mattress should be a great option for sex. It is a hybrid mattress that has individually pocketed coils, which gives it a bounce and allows for some airflow. It also has an elastic and cooling GelFlex Grid that helps it maintain a cool and dry feel. The mattress’ edge support is also strong, as it has edge-to-edge coils support core and edge support foam that keep it supportive at the edges.

We rated the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress’ sex performance a 5/5.

Pressure Relief

When we sleep in our preferred sleeping position, usually we feel pressure buildup in different body areas, which are known as pressure points. It is of great importance to opt for a mattress that relieves your pressure points, so you can enjoy a comfortable and healthy sleep.

We tested the Purple RestorePlus Hybrid mattress’ pressure relief performance by sleeping on each side and examining where pressure tends to build up. The pressure map below indicates the results.

Purple RestorePlus hybrid pressure map

For back sleepers, the mattress offers excellent support and distributes the weight of the sleeper evenly on its surface. Also thanks to its zoned support core, it cradles your shoulders and hips and supports the lumbar area.

Side sleepers who weigh less than 250 lbs should feel comfortable sleeping on the Purple Restore mattress, as its GelFlex Grid layer allow for the right amount of sinkage around the shoulders and hips areas. This relieves side sleepers’ pressure points and gives them good spinal alignment.

Similar to back and side sleepers, stomach sleepers will feel well lifted on the mattress, especially around their hips. This keeps them in a good alignment and prevents lower back pain.

The mattress generally relieves the pressure of light-weight and average-weight sleepers. Yet, even the Firm model feels could be too soft for heavy-weight sleepers who sleep on their side.

We rated the RestorePlus Hybrid mattress’ pressure relief performance a 4.2/10.
