It is made with somewhat low-quality materials that don’t justify its relatively high price. No Difference between Firmness Options - The Sealy Naturals Hybrid bed comes in three firmness options: Soft, Medium, and Firm. While this may be a strong advantage for mattress shoppers, it is actually not the case for this bed. There is very little difference in the firmness of those three modules, making them almost the same, but with different names. This wouldn’t meet the needs of sleepers who want a personalized sleeping experience.

Mediocre Edge Support - The Sealy Naturals Hybrid has adequate edge support due to having edge coils around its perimeter. Yet, its edges are not supportive enough for average and heavy-weight folks. This would force you to sleep towards the center of your mattress, as sleeping or sitting near the edges would make you feel like you are going to roll out of bed.

Not Entirely Natural - While Sealy markets this mattress as a natural and eco-friendly bed, it actually has many processed materials that negate that. The Cover in particular is made with organic cotton, yet it still has a blend of Tencel, Hemp, and Polyester. Such processed materials might not satisfy the need of those who are looking for a natural mattress that is free of chemicals and toxins. If you want a natural mattress that is made with organic materials, we recommend the Nolah Natural 11.

Unboxing the Sealy Naturals Hybrid Mattress

Sealy deliver its mattresses compressed in a box, and the Naturals Hybrid mattress was no different. Yet, the box was heavy due to the fact that latex is a heavy material. So, it is highly advisable to seek help while setting up your bed, as it would be a hazard to do it on your own.

The mattress took around 24 hours to fully expand to its 13” height. As for edge support, the mattress’ edges are considered adequate, so you may not feel well-supported if you decide to sleep or sit near the edges.

Like most bed-in-a-box beds, the Sealy Naturals Hybrid mattress released a potent off-gassing smell when it was unboxed. However, the smell disappeared after subjecting the mattress to strong airflow for a couple of days. This further indicates that it is not as natural as Sealy claims.

Overall, the unboxing experience of the Sealy Naturals Hybrid was not exceptional.

The firmness of any bed highly depends on your body weight and preferred sleeping position, making it a subjective matter. However, it is essential to opt for a mattress that meets your own needs. The Sealy Naturals Hybrid mattress comes in three firmness options: Soft, Medium, and Firm. However, we found that there are little to no differences between those three modules. According to our firmness scale, where 1 stands for soft and 10 stands for firm, the three modules achieved very similar scores. Actually, the Soft scored a 5/10 and both the Medium and Firm scored a 6.5/10.

So if you are a back or stomach sleeper, the Medium or Firm modules would work fine for you. Side sleepers, however, may prefer the Soft mode, as it has a medium feel that can cushion their shoulders and hips and give them the needed comfort.

The comfort of any mattress also depends on your body weight, preferred sleeping position, and firmness of the mattress. The Sealy Naturals Hybrid mattress comes in three firmness options, yet these options feel the same, which makes it limited to certain types of sleepers.

The Medium and Firm models can provide adequate comfort for back and stomach sleepers, yet the quality of the coils used in the Sealy Naturals Hybrid can’t give average weight and heavy-weight sleepers the needed support to keep their bodies aligned.

Similarly, the soft model may work for light-weight side sleepers, but average and heavy-weight sleepers may experience an excessive sinkage and feel that they are sleeping inside the mattress, rather than on it.

If you tend to sleep hot, or simply don’t like the feeling of a hot mattress at night, then getting a mattress with good cooling performance is essential for you.

We ran two tests to assess the Sealy Naturals Hybrid mattress’ cooling performance. The first test consists of sleeping on each side for a 20-minute nap. When we did this test, we found that the mattress remained at a neutral temperature in all sleeping positions.

The second test we did was to try sleeping on the mattress for a full night. We found that the mattress tends to slightly overheat if you toss and turn on it for a long period of time. However, not to the extent of disturbing hot sleepers and waking them up.

The Sealy Naturals Hybrid is not a cooling mattress, yet it does a decent job of keeping your bed at a balanced temperature. If you want a mattress with excellent cooling performance, we recommend the PlushBeds Cool Bliss mattress.

Responsiveness

We tested the Sealy Naturals Hybrid mattress’ responsiveness by placing a 20 lb ball on its surface and then removing it. This test helps assess how quickly the mattress responds to pressure.

While doing this test, we found that the mattress takes about 1.6 seconds to recover to its original form. This shows that the mattress has decent responsiveness that allows for easy movement on its surface. However, for a hybrid mattress, its responsiveness should be better.

Motion Isolation

If you are a light-sleeper who is easily disrupted by your partner’s tossing and turning all night, then a mattress with good motion isolation performance would meet your needs. We tested the Sealy Naturals Hybrid mattress’ motion isolation by running a couple of our tests.

The first test is that we put a glass of water on one side of the mattress, and dropped a 20 lb ball on the other side. This helps us examine how much motion is propagated to the glass of water. While doing this test, we found that the water glass was very affected by the drop of the ball.

The second test involves rolling on one side of the mattress and having our partner report to us the motion felt on the other side of the mattress. This test also indicated that the mattress allows for motion transfer, as the movement was felt on the other side of the bed.

Unlike foam mattresses, hybrid beds that have coils in their construction are more likely to allow for motion transfer, and the Sealy Naturals Hybrid is no exception. Therefore, if you are a fan of hybrid mattresses, but don’t want to worry about waking up in the middle of the night due to your partner’s movement, we recommend the PlushBeds Eco Bliss mattress, as it is a hybrid bed that offers an excellent motion isolation performance.

A mattress with strong edges that don’t compress easily allows you to utilize the entire sleep surface of the mattress, and sleep near the edges without feeling that you will fall out of bed. We tested the Sealy Naturals Hybrid mattress’ edge support by performing two tests.

The first test we did consisted of applying pressure to the edges of the mattress and observing how much it sank. This test indicates if the mattress has strong edges that make you feel supported while sleeping. When we did this test, we found that the edges of the mattress compressed due to pressure.

The second test we did involved sitting on the mattress’ edges and seeing how well it holds body weight. The results of the test were the same, as we didn’t feel well-supported by the mattress’ edges.

Despite having coils by its perimeter, the Sealy Naturals Hybrid mattress has inadequate edge support, which indicates that the coils are not strong enough.

Therefore, we rated the Sealy Naturals Hybrid mattress’ edge support a 2/5.

Noise

We did our standard noise test to see if the Sealy Naturals Hybrid mattress causes any sounds or squeaks. Our test consists of dropping a heavy ball on the surface of the mattress, and examining how much noise it causes through highly sensitive mics.

When we performed our noise test, we found the Sealy Naturals Hybrid mattress is within the “slightly noisy” mattress range. Like most hybrid mattresses that have coils in their construction, the Sealy Naturals Hybrid does make some squeaks when you move on it, so if you are a light sleeper, we would recommend an all-foam mattress.

We tested the Sealy Naturals Hybrid mattress’ pressure relief by taking a 20-minute nap on the mattress and reporting the pressure caused to different body parts. The pressure map below shows how the mattress responds to each sleeping position.

Light-weight back sleepers should feel comfortable on the Medium or Firm models of this bed, as it would give them the needed support and fill their lumbar area. This would relieve pressure of their back and keep them well aligned. Average and heavy-weight back sleepers, however, would sink too much into the mattress, so a firmer bed is recommended for them.

Side sleepers, especially those with a lightweight, should find the Soft model a good option, as it would sink in the right places and hug their shoulders and hips, relieving the pressure of them. Yet, Average and heavy-weight sleepers wouldn’t get the needed support from it, causing them to sink too much.

Similar to back sleepers, slight-weight stomach sleepers should feel that sleeping on this bed makes them in a good alignment, but if they are heavier than 150 lbs, it wouldn’t be a good match for them.
