Are you wondering if the Tuft & Needle mattress is right for you? In this article, we'll cover everything you need to know about this bed, from how it's constructed to how it feels and sleeps, and much, much more.

If you want to know if going for the Tuft & Needle Mattress is a good choice, or if there are better options for your money, then continue reading our review below.

Consider if Tuft & Needle Mattress if

  • I believe this bed would be ideal for back sleepers! It provides excellent support, providing neutral spine alignment from the shoulders to the lower back.
  • It also sleeps cool due to the graphite infusion in the top layer of foam. The thermoregulating qualities of this mattress should appeal to hot sleepers.
  • Finally, the Tuft & Needle is an excellent deal, especially for individuals suffering from lower back discomfort or seeking for a sciatica mattress. It not only made our list of the Best Mattresses Under $1,000, but it also delivers a big punch without breaking the budget.

Avoid Tuft & Needle Mattress if

  • Heavier people may find the bed to be insufficiently supportive for their unique needs. It is not intended for those weighing more than 250 pounds due to its simplistic two-layer construction.
  • Strict stomach sleepers may find the top layer of foam too mild, forcing their hips to sag out of line with their shoulders.

Firmness, Feel and Comfort for Tuft & Needle Mattress

Is it possible that the Tuft & Needle will meet your requirements? If so, you're probably curious about how the Tuft & Needle feels! To find this out, we'll first discuss how firm it is.

Firmness, like all other feel qualities, is subjective and might vary based on your size, shape, or weight

Tuft & Needle mattress firmness

I gave the Tuft & Needle mattress a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale after stretching out on it. When compared to the industry norm of 6.5 for medium-firm, it appears that this bed is a little stiffer.

Performance of Tuft & Needle Mattress

Despite its importance, hardness is simply one facet of how a bed feels! To thoroughly evaluate the Tuft & Needle, we must consider additional variables like as how it feels for different weight sleepers, whether or not it relieves back pain, and how it works for couples.

Is the Tuft & Needle a Good Mattress for Light Sleepers (Under 130 lbs)?

  • Light Back Sleepers - I believe light back sleepers will be quite comfortable on this bed. They'll feel pleasant and supported, and they'll benefit from some calming pressure alleviation.
  • Light Side Sleepers - For light side sleepers, this mattress may feel a little too firm. These sleepers will not experience the sinkage required at the hips and shoulders to be comfortable on this bed.
  • Light Stomach Sleepers - This mattress appears to be firm enough for light stomach sleepers. These sleepers should have the necessary support to keep their spine in a lovely, straight line.

Is the Tuft & Needle a Good Mattress for Average Weight Sleepers (130 – 250 lbs)?

  • Average Weight Back Sleepers - This is a good bed for average weight back sleepers. These sleepers should feel supported in the spine and have some pressure reduction in the lower back.
  • Side Sleepers of Average Weight - These sleepers will not obtain the sinkage they require on this bed. They should consider getting a softer mattress.
  • Stomach Sleepers of Average Weight - This bed does not appear to be supportive enough for average-weight stomach sleepers, particularly those on the heavier side of typical. These sleepers' hips will sink too deep into the mattress, causing their spine to be out of alignment.

Is the Tuft & Needle a Good Mattress for Heavy Sleepers (over 250 lbs)?

  • Heavy back sleepers should avoid the Tuft & Needle since it isn't supportive enough. I'd recommend one of our finest mattresses for heavier folks to these sleepers.
  • Heavy stomach and side sleepers - Same as back sleepers.

Tuft & Needle Mattress Pain Relief Performance

When trying out a new mattress, it's critical to evaluate its ability to relieve pressure in sensitive areas such as the shoulders, hips, and lower back. I've opted to use a pressure map to show the Tuft & Needle's potential to accomplish precisely that!

Pressure map shown all blue pressure points

Back Pain - The Tuft & Needle mattress is excellent for back pain. If you have back discomfort, the greatest position to sleep in is on your back since it is the simplest to create a neutral spine alignment in. While lying on my back on this bed, I could feel the top layer of foam filling in the gap in my lumbar region for some great pressure relief, as well as the high-density poly foam foundation providing some delightful support.

Shoulder Pain - I expected an all-foam bed to cushion my shoulders and hips, but the Tuft & Needle is surprisingly rigid. For improved pressure reduction at the shoulders, strict side sleepers may choose to use a softer construction.

Hip Discomfort - The Tuft & Needle, in my opinion, is not soft enough for individuals who suffer from hip pain. These sleepers will prefer a softer bed with improved cushioning at sensitive pressure areas in the hips.

Motion Transfer

Let's round up our experiments by examining motion transfer, or the amount of movement perceptible from one side of the bed to the other. This is a vital consideration for everyone, but it may be especially beneficial for people who sleep with a kid, partner, or boisterous pet!

In my perspective, the motion transfer results here are only adequate. There isn't a lot of movement from side to side, but the foam isn't quite as absorbent as I expected. So, to cut a long tale short, you're likely to hear your companion tossing and turning in the middle of the night.

Performance During Sex

A excellent sex mattress is one that is responsive and springy. This will make it easy to move about during intimate activities. I'd say the Tuft & Needle is a good sex mattress. For a foam bed, it's responsive and springy.

Cooling

Because two people warm more readily than one, couples should opt for a bed with cooling features. The cooling gel and graphite in the Tuft & Needle's comfort layer help it sleep cool.

Edge Support

The Tuft & Needle offers decent edge support. Though it isn't the nicest I've seen, resting all the way on the edge of this bed will make you feel quite secure.

Construction and Design for Tuft & Needle Mattress

layers of Tuft & Needle Mattress

Layers

  1. Cover –  Tuft & Needle's cover is composed of polyester. It has a thin texture, which should aid in air movement throughout the mattress.
  2. Comfort Layer - A 3-inch layer of the brand's unique Adaptive® foam sits beneath the cover. It responds quickly to pressure, resulting in superb mobility and bounce. This layer also contains some cooling gel and graphite, which should help to absorb and release body heat.
  3. Base Layer –  The 7-inch foundational layer of high-density poly foam makes up the majority of the mattress. This material is fairly solid, giving off a strong and supporting sense. It also has an open-cell construction that allows for enhanced ventilation throughout the structure. However, because the mattress only has two layers, bigger people may sink directly through the comfort layer onto the incredibly hard foundation, which may cause pain.

Tuft & Needle Unboxing and Off-Gassing

The Tuft & Needle mattress is a bed-in-a-box model, which means it will arrive compacted in a box. You must unbox it at home and allow it to deflate and release trapped gases for at least 24 hours before sleeping on it.

Conclusion

The Tuft & Needle is a surprisingly supportive all-foam mattress that is ideal for back sleepers. It's quite breathable, which helps it sleep cool, plus it's reasonably priced.

Overall, we loved the Tuft & Needle mattress and believe that it is a great option for people who like the feeling of memory foam mattresses.

However, you should note that there are options that are just as good (if not slightly better) for the price. Most notably the Amerisleep AS3 (read review here).

To add, the Amerisleep AS3 is currently on sale, making it a better deal as it's targeted towards the same audience the Tuft & Needle is targeting, but offers improved features in motion isolation, company policies, and others.

We'd suggest reading our review of the Amerisleep AS3, and if you find that if you find it compelling, then you should go for it guilt-free over the Tuft & Needle and you'll be much more satisfied with the purchase.

We have an exclusive handpicked amazing coupon listed on the review page of the AS3 that makes it an amazing deal.
